Automatic Responder Services | List Building Secrets
We talked about why you should be building a list in your niche on this post. Now, let’s start to deal with the mechanics.
Over the next few days we’ll give you a step by step guide on how should set everything up from the word go!
Firstly though, let’s be clear you cannot build and manage a list of subscribers without automation. It is simply not feasible to handle a mailing list in the same way you would correspondence between 2 or 3 people.
However, you can make it as personal as possible using a good automatic responder service.
Thad and I both use Aweber and you can check out our Aweber autoresponder review here.
There are others on the market, notably Getresponse but we can’t comment on those as we do not use them. Aweber is pretty much the autoresponder of choice for Internet Marketers who are serious about their business.
Please do NOT scrimp on your autoresponder service. It will rapidly become the ‘face’ on your online business. Your way of interacting with your customers. It is like having an employee working for you on a daily basis.
A brief word of warning on the free responder services that are available:
- You get what you pay for, right? Very true in the world of autoresponders. All of the ‘free’ autoresponders add their own, usually non-relevant spammy advertising to your mails. Nothing is more likely to put off your customers than that.
- The free responder services are very limited on how many mailing lists you can manage and how many messages you can send. Sometimes all you get is the customer email. You must then try and manage and follow up messages yourself.
- The free responder services offer no spam filtering. But you are not going to be sending spam, so why should you worry about that? The problem is, unless you know exactly what trigger the spam filters of your customers mail clients, you could be in inadvertently sending out mails that get dumped straight in customers spam folder without them even seeing them!
A professional automatic responder service like Aweber or Getresponse takes care of this for you. There is no advertising, you can manage unlimited mailing lists and messages and each mail is filtered before you send it to assess it’s potential spam score.
So, when all things are considered it’s worth hiring that extra ‘employee’ to do the work for you.
In the next post we’ll look at the mechanics of capturing leads.

I was thinking of just trying a free service first. Why can’t I do that to see how it goes?
Hi John,
Well you could do that. The problem comes at the point where you decide that the free service doesn’t do what you want or you get sick of the ads, etc.
You can’t just migrate a list into Aweber easily. It’s possible but they would all have to opt-in again. Aweber does this to protect you, your customers and itself from spam complaints.
That’s why we recommend going straight into a paid service first. I know it costs but it more than pays for itself by a mile.
There’s no other way. This is one of the thing that you should pay for. Nothing wrong with free but always start with a paid autoresponder service. I recommend Aweber as well. Its the industry leader in AR services.
Awesome collection of all the things I love to read lolz.
