See, PPG can sing…go check her blog out if don’t believe me…I spent a long time on there yesterday…the lady sings exactly in tune with her audience.

Now, I can’t sing at all. But I can perform…

Let me tell you a story from when I was just 6 years old… a rare family holiday… to Wales of all places. My Dad is a rugby guy so he went off watching and playing games most days.

We were staying in a B & B which was also a working farm. I had three fights with the local farm boys on day one so I was kinda banished and had to go around with my mum, shopping and stuff. Yuk! Except for one thing…

Better tell you about my mum at this point. Think, Honor Blackman in Goldfinger complete with kinky boots…that was her then…she was cool then, she’s just as cool now.

Anyway, we would go in this tea shop (which I’d normally hate). But this one had a Jukebox and to keep me quiet my mum would give me money to play some songs. But I only ever put the same one on… 2 or 3 times on the trot…

On the third day the cafe owner came over to my mum and said ‘Look can you stop him putting on the same song all the time…it’s upsetting my customers’…

My mum said ‘OK’ and then went and bought another pot of tea….

She then went over to the Jukebox and put the song on TEN times!! And she danced...cleared the place completely…

Why? Because all the wives / girlfriends of the guys in there got them out pronto! (I didn’t understand that at the time)

No-one can perform like Mick… except me and my mum…

So, what’s this all about?…

You gotta be yourself… you gotta be in tune with your audience… some will like your style… some won’t…

Don’t pretend to be what you are not… get inside your niches… make that connection!
